.em Cosmetics Dramatic Volume Mascara Review

I was quite disappointed when I received a .em Cosmetics Mascara in my November Ipsy Bag a few weeks ago. I haven't heard the best reviews when it comes to .em mascara, but I thought I would give it a chance.

For the past few weeks I have been using this mascara on a daily basis, and I have quite a few opinions to share with you! This is the first time that I've ever reviewed a mascara before, so please bear with me & all my creepy eye pictures!

I received the Lash Gallery Dramatic Volume Mascara in Brown. What originally turned me off from this product was the fact that I received it in brown.. I am a black mascara lover. The blacker, the better. The brush is not a hard little rubber one, which makes me happy, but it is fairly large and "spoon" shaped. This mascara retails for $20.00, which is quite average for a middle to high-end mascara!

The formula of this mascara is VERY wet, which makes for a messy application process.. I am not normally the one to end up with mascara all over my eyelid or under my eye, but this formula is so wet, that a Q-Tip is always needed for me to clean it up a little.

So here are my lovely eyelashes au natural. The focus is totally off, but you get the idea. Since I am blonde, I look funny without mascara on. You can't tell how blonde they are in this picture, because I am pretty sure there are still remnants of my mascara from the day before.. I am pretty lazy with properly removing my eye makeup, but that's a whole other story.

Side Note #1: I had no idea that my eyelids were so veiny before taking these pictures..

Here are the results after one coat of mascara. My lashes look longer, but look quite spidery. I wouldn't say that they are looking volumious or anything like that. I love somewhat clumpier, doll like eyelashes, so I decided to go for another coat.

After the second coat you can see that they look slightly more volumious. I would definitely say that this mascara lengthen, more than it volumizes.

I have also had some disaster moments over the past few weeks. Since I do like a clumpier look, I tried to continue to build up the mascara a little more than normal.. That resulted in my eyelashes being totally clumped together into one big ol' mess.. I had to use an old mascara wand to separate them and get them to look somewhat normal.. it was quite the a messy experience.

However, I am happy to report that this mascara lasts throughout the day without any issues! Over the past few weeks this mascara has yet to flake or give me panda eyes. It also holds curls really well!

Side Note #2: You can all thank my lovely boyfriend, Collin, for the close up pictures of my eyeballs!

I will most likely continue to use this mascara, but I probably wouldn't repurchase it. It is definitely not my favourite, but it gets the job done!

  1. I love all your pictures! What camera do you use?

    1. aw, thanks so much! :) i have the sony alpha 65!

  2. Too bad it doesn't totally live up to your expectations! I hate when mascara formulas are quite wet and messy - the weight of the product totally weighs my lashes down too. Thanks for the review!

& thanks for the visit to my blog, let me know if you want to follow each other! :)

    1. Yeah, if it wasn't so wet and messy it might actually work a little bit better. I wonder if I'll like it more once it dries out a little, aha. & I already follow you on bloglovin! :)
